Certification of Election
Candidate Statement for Office of Mayor I have had the honor of serving as Mayor for the last four years and I look forward to the opportunity to serve you again. Prior to serving as Mayor, I served as a Trustee and also served on the BMOI Board. My wife Carol and I have lived in Bow Mar since 1996. I grew up in Littleton and graduated from Littleton High School and Colorado State University. We have raised three girls while living in Bow Mar: Kaley who will start graduate school this fall; Libby who is married to a Marine and is living and working in northern Virginia; and, Rebecca who is attending the University of Colorado as a freshman. During my career as a transportation engineer, I have been fortunate to work on a number of highway and transit projects in Denver and throughout the western states. My work takes me away from Town at times, but when I return it always reminds me of the reasons why we are so happy to live here. Garrett Baum I have lived in Bow Mar since 2004 with my wife Karen and two son’s Jordon (10) and Alex (8) and Lucy our 10 month Golden Retriever. When not spending time focused on our children’s school and their extra curricular activities we enjoy skiing, golfing, swimming, sailing and just hanging out by the water. As a family, we are very involved philanthropically focusing on children’s causes and we are very active in education reform and with The Children’s Hospital. My company is Urban Frontier and we focus on Commercial Real Estate Development and Acquisitions. I have a vast experience in politics at a Local, State and Federal level. I am a skilled negotiator and have been successful in business due to my ability to reach out to parties with differing views and objectives and obtain consensus. I serve or have served on many Boards including Trustee of Bow Mar, Owners Associations and Special Finance Districts giving me a unique perspective into public and private infrastructure, public and private law enforcement and safety, and financing and budgetary constraints. I will use all of these experiences to promote fiscal responsibility, quality infrastructure and a safe community. Thank you for this opportunity to serve Bow Mar and each and every one of you. Doug Champion Doug Champion has been involved in the homebuilding / land development industry for over 30 years; he understands the importance of managing budgets, competitive bidding, and subcontractor selection. Doug was Division President for a national builder for over 15 years and then was a partner of a small local builder that was grown and sold to an international company after several years. Doug has been responsible for sales volumes from 30 million to over 225 million dollars. It was important to Doug to create an esprit de corps between all the team members to successful grow these businesses. As great as Bow Mar is there are always challenges, especially with the current economy and declining property values, which will inevitably affect our budgets. Doug believes that with his pragmatic decision making skills and good communication with the citizens of Bow Mar he can be an asset to the board of trustees. John Giese Bow Mar is home. Every day Letty and I enjoy all aspects of this unique community and have for 7 years. Our children are grown: our older son lives in Singapore and our younger son in California. I serve on the Board of Directors of the Denver Fire Department Federal Credit Union and was Chairman for 16 years. Recently, I retired from the Denver Fire Department with 37 years of public service as Assistant Chief and District Commander. I have a Master's Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in city government and administration. The Town elected me Trustee two years ago, and I was appointed Finance Commissioner. It's no news that times are tough, and my top fiscal priority and responsibility has been to ensure the soundness of Bow Mar's funds. To give back to Bow Mar is a great honor. Gary Guilford My wife Carol is a 2nd generation Bow Marite, and she introduced me to Bow Mar. For 29 years we have lived on Redwood Drive and enjoyed Bow Mar’s unique lifestyle and spending time at the beach with our children and grandchildren. As a current Trustee, I am a board member on the Denver Regional Counsel of Governments. I have previously served as a board member of BMOI–as president in 1986, I negotiated the cove agreements for construction of the current spillway. In addition, I previously served as a Trustee, and in that capacity I negotiated the first trash removal contract for Bow Mar. I also served on the board of the Patrick Bennett Reservoir Company. I have the ability to examine, understand and communicate issues from a broad point of view, seeing beyond individual special interests. I would consider it a privilege to serve Bow Mar again. Todd Guthrie My name is Todd Guthrie and I am excited about the opportunity to serve the community as a member of the Board of Trustees. I have lived in Bow Mar for over 25 years, the last ten with my wife Amy and our 4 children. I believe that the experiences that I have had both growing up in town and now as an adult provide me with a great perspective and will provide value to the citizens of Bow Mar. Professionally, I am the President of a commercial general contractor, W. E. O'Neil Construction Company, providing our services throughout the state of Colorado. I will bring leadership experience in construction management, civil engineering, and real estate to the Board of Trustees and believe that my background is well suited to assist in managing some of the critical issues that we currently face as a community. Please consider me when voting for trustee in the upcoming election and please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason to see where I stand on the current issues or to find out how I would approach new issues as they come to the Board. Thank you for considering me to serve as Town Trustee. Kristin McDonald Hello Bow Martians! I am very proud to live in the Town of Bow Mar, & humbly ask for your vote for Trustee. What makes our Town so special is hard to put in words, but each of you is likely as grateful as I am to live here. Where else can you "eat dinner with your closest friends" ninety nights a year while enjoying a setting as glorious as the Beach? By way of background, Bill & I moved to Bow Mar in 1999. We are so proud of our two sons; Ian (a freshman at ASU) & Nolan (a sophomore at Heritage). Although no one can foresee what decisions will face the new Board, I am confident that I will make a positive impact. As an entrepreneur for the last 16 years, I am comfortable making tough financial & operational decisions. I am at ease collaborating, managing change, or analyzing a budget line-byline. I certainly don't claim to have all the answers, but I am calm & decisive. I will stand firm on my principles, listen intently & seek first to understand. Most importantly, I will remember that humor, candor & compassion are great additions to any environment. I would appreciate your vote. Carrie McLaughlin I moved to Bow Mar 26 years ago, and quickly became involved in one of the garden clubs and took to participating in Blackouts. I have served on the Board of Trustees for the last two years and am presently the President of the Bow Mar Foundation. I love to garden and golf. Additionally, I currently serve as Trustee on the South Suburban Park Foundation Board, which focuses on trail building and development of parks in the South Suburban area. My previous volunteer activities in Bow Mar include: BMOI Board, serving as president for one year, Lower Bowles Water Company, Woofie Walk Chair, 4th of July Picnic at the Beach, chair. Merle McKittrick We moved our family to Bow Mar in 1999 after "cutting through" the town for years dreaming about how great it would be to live here. Well, living here has surpassed those dreams, and we have made great friends as have our three sons (ages 21, 16 and 12). During the school year, you can find me at Notre Dame Catholic School where I teach 4th grade and serve as assistant principal. During the summer, I'm likely herding boys or working in the yard. In a prior corporate life, I designed and manufactured tooling for high-precision packaging companies. I enjoy camping, hiking and travel. Brenda Sears Hello neighbors…my name is Brenda Sears and I am interested in being a trustee. My family and I are relatively new to Bow Mar. We renovated a home on Ridge Trail five years ago and couldn’t be happier. You might have met my husband Lon or kids Trent (14) and Kara (10). I am a part-time speech pathologist working currently with adult patients who have suffered a neurological event. Bryan Sperry I Bryan Sperry have lived in Bow Mar for 15 years with my wife Kim and my 3 children, Taylor, Justin and Lauren. I currently serve as president to the Bow Mar Water and Sanitation District. The District provides water and sewer service to the Town of Bow Mar. While serving on the board and as president, I am particularly proud of the fact that the District has not experienced a wastewater system failure or backup in over 3,251 days. Through careful planning and design, the District has been able to successfully complete numerous public works projects with values in excess of our needed roads project in Bow Mar. With this experience, and if elected, I will promote a comprehensive roads repair plan for Bow Mar to be financed with affordable sources of funding similar to that used for water projects in town. Thank you for considering me to serve as Town Trustee. Elizabeth Tulloch Our family moved to Bow Mar in 1975 when our children were in elementary school. Over the years, our family participated in and volunteered to help with most town activities, especially tennis. I am an attorney by profession. and for a number of years, I served as Reserve Judge in the Bow Mar Municipal Court, and then as presiding judge of the court from 1993 through 2005. In 2008 I was elected as a town trustee, and have served as Building Commissioner of the town for the past two years. My priority as Building Commissioner is to preserve and enhance our small town setting, principles and values, while balancing growth and the concerns of our existing citizens. Rick Wilkins Bow Mar has been home to my wife Nancy and I for 25 years. We have raised our three children in this wonderful neighborhood and have enjoyed all its amenities. In past years I have served on the BMOI Board as Treasurer and then as President. Currently, I am Vice President on the Patrick Bennett Water Board where I have also served as Treasurer and President. I am in my 29th year advising families and businesses on financial matters. My career began at AG Edwards and Sons in 1980 and then moved to RBC Wealth Management in 1995. |
