BMOI DOES NOT ASSUME LIABILITY FOR ACCIDENTS TO PERSONS USING THE
FACILITIES. HOWEVER, TO PROMOTE SAFETY, ENJOYMENT, AND TO PRESERVE THE USE
OF BMOI FACILITIES FOR ALL DUES-PAYING MEMBERS AT ALL TIMES, THE FOLLOWING
RULES APPLY:
GENERAL
1. DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE BEACH OR PICNIC AREA AT ANY TIME. On
other BMOI property, dogs must be under control at all times.
2. All BMOI Members, including their immediate family residing with
them, may invite guests to use BMOI facilities, providing all rules and
regulations regarding guest privileges are complied with. All members must
accompany guests and remain with their guests. Members must register
guests at the lifeguard station.
3. Members may extend limited use of BMOI facilities to houseguests or
their nonresident children without the member being present after making
arrangements for a guest card (available from Membership Chairperson).
Holders of guests cards may not bring guests or participate in BMOI
sanctioned or organized activities.
4. Number of Guests: BMOI Members may have up to six (6) persons, or
one family, as guests at any time without the requirement of a reservation
or board approval. No fees are involved for this number of guests. More
than six guests, (if more than one family), comprises a Private Party,
which is governed by General Rule #5 below.
5. Private Parties: A “Private Party” is defined as a group exceeding
six (6), (and more than one family) non-BMOI members and is subject to the
following rules:
a. NUMBER of GUESTS in a PRIVATE PARTY:
1) 7-19, and more than one family: Requires advance reservation
through the BMOI Social Chairman, but does not require BMOI Board
Approval. No fees are involved.
2) More than 19: Requires advance reservation through the BMOI Social
Chairman, and also requires advance approval by the BMOI Board. The fee
shall be determined by the Board. The Board may also require party
sponsors to provide additional lifeguards, security services, or other
special services.
3) When BMOI members combine to sponsor a party (e.g.: school or
church group, etc.), and if the total non-BMOI members exceeds nineteen
(19), this will be treated as one membership party, regardless of the
number of BMOI memberships involved, with advance Board Approval
required, and fees and other requirements to be set by the Board as per
paragraph 5A2 above.
b. Private Parties are permitted ONLY on WEEKDAYS (Monday through 2PM
Friday Afternoon.) Private Parties ARE NOT PERMITTED from 2PM Friday
through Sunday.
c. Private parties shall not exceed fifty (50) non-members. At any
one time, combined private parties shall not exceed sixty (60) people at
the beach and picnic areas.
d. All Private Parties need to be scheduled with the Social Chairman
and put on the calendar.
e. Party sponsors must reserve their tables early enough that other
BMOI members are not inconvenienced or ejected from their tables.
f. Off-season private parties may be permitted by the Board for a
maximum size of eighty-five (85) guests. The party sponsor will be
responsible for insuring that the beach area used is returned to its
previous conditions and all trash removed. The fee will be determined by
the Board.
6. A resident of Bow Mar who is not a BMOI Member may not use BMOI
facilities as a guest of a Member.
7. Schedules for all BMOI functions (swimming, tennis, sailing,
fishing) should be coordinated with the BMOI Social Calendar in advance
for approval by the board.
8. No outside organization shall be granted permission to use BMOI
facilities.
9. All trash must be deposited in receptacles provided for that
purpose. Fish should be placed in the trash can located on the fishing
dock.
10. Fires must be confined to fireplaces, firepit, or barbecues. All
fires should be put out after use. Fire permits from Tri-County Health
Department are required for special fires for parties or events.
11. Car Stickers are provided to all members.
12. No motorized vehicle shall be operated on BMOI property except in
the designated parking areas.
13. Use of glass bottles, glass dishes or other potentially dangerous
objects is prohibited on the beach.
14. Depositing cigarette butts on sand or in picnic area is prohibited.
Ash cans are available at guard stand.
15. The Beach Manager, BMOI Directors and Lifeguards have the authority
to enforce all rules and regulations and expel violators.
16. ABSOLUTELY NO FEEDING OF WILDLIFE AT THE LAKE. Wildlife become more
aggressive and a nuisance when fed.
17. No underage drinking is allowed on BMOI property. All members are
responsible for enforcing the above rules and posted regulations. Failure
to conform with the BMOI rules and regulations or abuse of BMOI property
may result in revocation of BMOI privileges.
SWIMMING
1. Lifeguards will be on duty until dark. THERE IS NO SWIMMING AFTER
DARK!
2. Swimming is prohibited outside the designated swimming area unless a
lake swim is sanctioned by the Beach Manager and a lifeguard and spotter
accompany the swimmers in a boat.
3. All children under the age of 5 years and children between the ages
of 5 and 10 years who have not passed the swimming test must be
accompanied by an adult or a responsible baby-sitter registered with the
beach staff. Baby-sitters must meet the following qualifications:
1) minimum of 12 years of age;
2) passed swimming test; and
3) watches a maximum of two children at one time. Failure of the
baby-sitter to perform in a responsible manner may result in removal
from the beach in accordance with General Rule No. 15. The Beach
Committee may consider a written application and a release from parents
for variances from the foregoing requirements.
4. No junior member or guest may swim in the adult swimming area unless
he or she has passed the swimming test.
5. The “buddy system” supervised by lifeguards shall be used at all
times for children under 16 years of age.
6. Scuba diving may be done under supervision of lifeguards in
accordance with N.A.U.T. rules.
BOATING, BOAT STORAGE & SAILING
1. All motorized boats used on Bow Mar Lake must be registered annually
and the owner’s name and/or registration number displayed on the boat.
2. Motorized boats with motors 7 1/2 H.P. and smaller will be
automatically issued a motor permit from the Beach Manager when
registered. Motors larger than 7 1/2 H.P. are prohibited from operating on
Bow Mar Lake without a written permit approved by the Board of Directors.
3. All boats shall be kept clear of the swimming area and shall be
operated in a wakeless manner.
4. Life preservers must be worn by all boat occupants at all times. It
is strongly recommended that U.S. Coast Guard approved vests be utilized
to comply with state regulations.
5. No guest boats are permitted on the lake except at sanctioned events
and except with special permission of the Board or the Commodore of the
Yacht Club acting on behalf of the Board.
6. Careless and/or dangerous operation of boats or infractions of the
rules will result in the loss of lake privileges. Intentionally capsizing
a boat is allowed only during training sessions or with prior clearance
with beach staff.
7. Junior sailors 8 and over who have passed both the Junior sailing
test and the swimming test may sail alone. Junior sailors enrolled in a
sailing instructional program may sail alone while under the supervision
of sailing instructors and only during scheduled and sanctioned
instructional programs.
8. The Junior sailing test will be administered by Yacht Club
representatives and endorsed by the Beach Manager.
9. Boaters under 16 may sail only when lifeguards are on duty or when
under parental supervision.
10. In the event of a boat capsizing on the lake, the most important
rule is to stay with the boat until assistance arrives. On righting a
capsized boat, do not sail away from anyone left in the water subject to
Rule 6.
11. All boats on the lake shall immediately come ashore should
potentially hazardous conditions arise, such as lightning or imminent
storm conditions or upon direction from the beach staff.
12. Boats and sailboats may only be stored in assigned slips, racks or
other designated areas on BMOI property. No boats or trailers may be
stored on Gilles Island other than in marina slips or canoe racks. All
boats, canoes and sailboats must bear owner’s name and/or registration
number.
13. Children under 12 years of age are not permitted in marina without
adult member. Juniors 12 and over are permitted in marina if a signed
parental note accepting responsibility has been submitted to Beach
Committee.
14. During sailboat races, all boats not entered in the race should
stay clear of the course.
15. No jet skis are allowed on the lake.
WINDSURFING
1. NO GUESTS MAY USE THE LAKE FOR WINDSURFING WITHOUT A BMOI MEMBER
PRESENT.
2. LIFE JACKETS must be worn at all times. A harness is not a
substitute for a life jacket.
3. In case of lightning or threatening weather, all windsurfers should
immediately come ashore (at any point on the lake).
4. Sails should not be left on the beach when rigged, but should be
stored in the new windsurfing stands during daytime hours.
5. All windsurfing boards and sails must be de-rigged and stored in a
boat locker.
BOAT LOCKERS
1. Boat Locker Committee will maintain a waiting list for boat lockers.
Lockers will be assigned on a firstcome first-served basis as they become
available.
2. Preference for lower lockers will be given for families with
sailboats. Windsurfers will be assigned upper lockers.
3. When a boat is sold, the locker will not transfer to the new owner
automatically.
4. Families with unused boats in lockers or with lockers without boats
should give up their lockers to others to the waiting list.
5. All boats, except snipes, must be stored in lockers or locked in the
designated lock up area near the yacht club facility. The beach staff may
secure any boats not properly secured.
6. Locker repairs are the responsibility of the locker user and BMOI.
TENNIS
Use of Courts
1. Use of courts is limited to tennis.
2. Regulation tennis shoes are required by players and spectators
entering the courts. Appropriate attire is required.
3. Chairs or other hard, sharp objects shall not be placed on the
courts.
4. Players are responsible for sweeping gravel, dirt, sand or other
debris off the courts before use.
5. Children under tennis playing age are not allowed within the
compound.
6. Only rubber or nylon tipped shovels may be used for snow removal.
Ice is not to be chipped.
7. Courts: Beach #1 - 4 Marston #5 - 8
8. NO VISITING PROS MAY GIVE LESSONS WHILE BMTC PRO’S CONTRACT IS IN
FORCE.
Court Priority - In the Order Listed
1. Interclub matches on as many courts as needed.
2. Tennis Pro has priority use of court #8 at all times.
3. Adult residents.
4. Tournaments.
5. Juniors: Court #5 is designated as the junior court AT ALL TIMES.
Tennis Etiquette
1. Please be considerate of other players. If you are conversing while
others are playing, please keep your voice down.
2. Don’t walk past a court while the ball is in play. Wait until the
point is over, then hurry – particularly when using the gate between
courts No. 2 and No.
3. Guests
1. Guest privileges may be extended only when host or hostess is
present, with the exception of house guests.
2. Guests of one member may use only one court if other members are
waiting. Exceptions may be considered at times when courts are not busy.
3. Please give consideration to members and try not to invite guests at
times when courts are busy.
4. Schedules of tournaments and interclub matches shall be posted in
advance.
5. Tie breaker rule shall be in effect for all Bow Mar tournaments.
Calendar of Events
1. All schedules of tournaments, interclub matches, parties or any
other special event shall be posted at least one week prior to the event.
2. Prior approval for any event using the tennis courts shall first be
obtained from the Tennis Committee.
Court Reservations
1. Reservation sheets will be posted on tennis court bulletin boards.
2. Reservations for courts shall be made not more than 1 week in
advance.
3. Cancellation of court reservation shall be made as soon as possible
so that others may use the court. Cancellation should be made by erasing
reservation. Failure to cancel may subject member to forfeiture of
reservation privileges.
4. Reservations shall be limited to 2 hours. However, interclub and
tournament matches shall be allowed to continue until match is completed.
5. Forfeiture of reservation is made after an elapsed time of 15
minutes.
FISHING
1. All Large Mouth Bass, Walleye, and Wipers must be returned to the
lake as soon as possible. Single barbless hooks are recommended.
2. Daily limit is: 0 Large Mouth Bass, 0 Wipers, 0 Walleye, 3 Channel
Catfish, 1 Northern Pike, 6 Bluegill, 6 Crappie, 6 Perch, and an aggregate
of 6 fish.
3. There is no limit on Carp or Bullhead. Carp and Bullhead Catfish
should not be returned to the lake, but should be taken home or deposited
in the containers provided.
4. There are no bait restrictions except that live minnows may be used
only if the minnows were captured in the lake. No live minnows from any
other source may be used. No more than 2 hooks per line may be used, and
no set lines may be left overnight.
5. Guest fishermen must be accompanied by a BMOI member.
6. Size limit: all Northern Pike under 24” must be promptly released.
7. No bow fishing, without lifeguard approval, in the beach area from
Gilles Island to the sailing dock.
ICE FISHING
1. 10 inch maximum hole. Fish at your own risk.
ICE SKATING
1. Ice skating is only permitted in an area to be designated by the Ice
Skating Club Chairman. This area will be designated by a sign either
reading “ICE SKATING TODAY” or “DANGER, KEEP OFF ICE.”
2. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a person at
least 16 years of age.
3. Ice skating after dark is permitted only by prior arrangements with
the chairman of the Ice Skating Club.
